Iraqi Christians
December 29, 2006 9:32 amIraqi Christian? For some reason when I read those two words together this week, it made me stop. I don’t know if it’s because our western media or American leadership but I didn’t consider Iraq to have believers. They should and they do! They say about 40% of the Christians have fled Iraq for near by lands. Forced out of Iraq and no help from the West, many have found themselves in Syria – actually Damascus, Syria. The same place Apostle Paul was converted.
Many of these Christians worked for Americans and now have nothing. They have adopted many of the West’s traditions for this season. They celebrate Christmas, sing carols in English, and people in Santa suits can be found handing out food to the needy.
I don’t know why I felt the need to right about these brothers & sisters of the faith, except to beseech your prayers. Iraq, Syria, Israel – this is where the Christian faith was birthed. No matter your political view or religious experience – these people need God’s compassion. If when the war ends and people return to Iraq – Christians may not be welcomed and their homes/business destroyed.
