We have contact! Tonight as we were settling down for a movie Summer began to feel the baby moving. I rush to her side barely feeling a kick. The foot couldn’t have been much larger than a quarter of an inch – but it felt enormous to me. I’m going to be a dad and I had first contact tonight.

Iraqi Christian? For some reason when I read those two words together this week, it made me stop. I don’t know if it’s because our western media or American leadership but I didn’t consider Iraq to have believers. They should and they do! They say about 40% of the Christians have fled Iraq for near by lands. Forced out of Iraq and no help from the West, many have found themselves in Syria – actually Damascus, Syria. The same place Apostle Paul was converted.
Many of these Christians worked for Americans and now have nothing. They have adopted many of the West’s traditions for this season. They celebrate Christmas, sing carols in English, and people in Santa suits can be found handing out food to the needy.
I don’t know why I felt the need to right about these brothers & sisters of the faith, except to beseech your prayers. Iraq, Syria, Israel – this is where the Christian faith was birthed. No matter your political view or religious experience – these people need God’s compassion. If when the war ends and people return to Iraq – Christians may not be welcomed and their homes/business destroyed.

It’s for real! We are having a baby. I’ve been reading this really good book called The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dad-to-Be, he talks about the stages dads-to-be go through. This week I realized I was in the Denial Stage until now. I trust my wife and I know she is having a baby, but except her word I couldn’t see any big change- this after going to every appointment and hearing the baby’s heartbeat. But for Christmas Summer’s mom got a children’s book for her and I’ve begun reading to the womb. Sounds silly but the book says it helps the father and baby bond.
Also, Summer has begun talking about feeling the baby more this week. Since Sunday she has probably doubled the occasions she feels “kicking” or she is just more aware of the feeling now. Nonetheless, I see a pregnant belly and soon I will be writing about feeling her kicks.

Well we had a good Christmas. I got a really good book called “Killing the Budda” by Jeff Sharlet and Peter Manseau, two albums from my mother-in-law, and two coats from Summer. I’m the most excited about the book. It’s one of those books you have to read slow and think about. I’m sure you will hear much more in the days to come.
I’m much more excited about January 2nd. This is when we will learn what we are having (sex). We have already bought the crib, changing table, and we currently looking for the right glider/ottoman. When we know the sex – I will begin my painting career.

Pushing 17 weeks now. The baby already looks like a person inside her. She (or he) is going to start growing faster and Summer is beginning to feel the butterflies of the baby moving. She really can’t tell if it’s the baby or the queso she eats daily.

It’s our twelfth week and she is starting to show much more. This a very bad picture of Summer, due to lighting (not the photographer -haha). Something about my wife’s body changing makes me tear up. I can see growth and know the baby is coming soon.

We decided around seven weeks of the pregnancy to start keeping a to picture record of her growth. It’s been an amazing thing to watch. We knew she was growing, but these pictures really help to see the progress. I remember at this point she thought she was getting “fat” (she hates that word) or pregnant. I like this one.
